Amid growing concern over rising suicide rates in the country, two additional tragic incidents occurred this week.
According to police reports, a 52-year-old man took his own life on Monday by hanging himself from a tree in a thicket along the Dagoretti-Kikuyu railway line.
Officers at the scene discovered that he had used a white sisal rope to hang himself and found a suicide note, the contents of which have not been disclosed. His body has been transferred to the St.
Teresa morgue, where it will undergo a postmortem examination.
In a separate incident, authorities in Makueni were alerted on Tuesday to another case of suicide.
Upon investigation, police found a 14-year-old high school student hanging from a timber beam on the roof, with a sisal rope around her neck.
The scene was processed, and her body was taken to the Sultan Hamud sub-county hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
In Kiminini, Bungoma County, a resident reported seeing a body floating in the Nzoia River. Upon arrival, police confirmed the lifeless body of a 31-year-old man was in the water.
With assistance from the community, the body was recovered and transported to Kitale Referral Hospital for an autopsy.
Additionally, another drowning incident occurred in Nyandarua County, where a grandmother reported that her five-year-old grandson had fallen into a well.
Police discovered the well, approximately 45 feet deep, with a broken lid, where the child had been playing with other children at the time.
Despite efforts to rescue him, he was declared dead upon arrival at Shamata dispensary.
His body has been moved to the Nyahururu morgue for preservation and will await further examination.
