Roofing manufacturer Zinco Mabati has announced the immediate termination of its brand ambassador partnership with popular entertainer MC Adek Tatu following allegations that he made tribal remarks that sparked public outrage.
In a statement released by the Nairobi-based company, Zinco Mabati said it had taken the decision as investigations into the matter continue, emphasizing that the views and statements attributed to the entertainer do not represent the company’s values or position.
The company moved swiftly to distance itself from the controversy, stating that it remains committed to promoting unity, inclusivity, and respect among all Kenyans regardless of their tribe, ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.
“Zinco Mabati does not condone any form of discrimination, hate speech, or divisive remarks,” the company said, adding that the ambassador’s alleged comments were made in a personal capacity and should not be associated with the brand.

The decision comes amid growing public scrutiny of public figures and influencers whose statements on social media and public platforms have the potential to fuel ethnic tensions.
Kenya has, over the years, made significant efforts to foster national cohesion, particularly given the country’s history of politically charged ethnic divisions.
Corporate brands have increasingly found themselves under pressure to uphold social responsibility standards by ensuring that individuals representing them align with their values.

As a result, companies are becoming more cautious about the conduct of ambassadors and influencers who serve as the public face of their products and services.
Zinco Mabati reiterated that it serves customers from all regions of the country and remains dedicated to treating every Kenyan with dignity and respect.
The company urged members of the public not to associate its brand with the alleged remarks or actions of the former ambassador.
“We remain committed to serving all Kenyans equally and fostering positive relationships with our customers and stakeholders across the country,” the statement noted.

The manufacturer also expressed regret over any concern or disappointment the controversy may have caused and thanked its customers, partners, and stakeholders for their continued trust and support.
The allegations against MC Adek Tatu have continued to generate debate online, with many Kenyans calling for greater accountability from public figures whose influence extends to large audiences.
As investigations continue, attention is expected to remain focused on the matter and its broader implications for brand partnerships and responsible public communication.
