A 27-year-old lorry driver was found dead along a footpath in Kamulu, Nairobi East, hours after allegedly taking a truck from a parking yard without the manager’s consent and crashing into two kiosks at Mala Shopping Centre.
The deceased, identified as Benson Munyao Mulinge, was found at about 3:20am on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
According to police, a resident of the area, was heading to church for morning prayers when he noticed a lorry parked near his gate.
The witness reportedly checked the front cabin but found no occupant before proceeding to church.
When he returned, he found the lifeless body of a man believed to be in his late 20s lying across a footpath. The lorry that had earlier been parked near his gate had also been moved and was found some distance away.
Police officers from Kamulu Police Station and Crime Scene Investigation officers from Ruai visited the scene and documented the incident.
Preliminary investigations established that Mulinge was the driver of Tata lorry registration, which he allegedly took from a parking yard in Malaa without the consent of the manager.
Police said the truck subsequently hit two kiosks at Malaa Shopping Centre before speeding off towards Kamulu.
The incident involving the kiosks was reported at Mala Police Station.
Investigators said Mulinge had no visible injuries apart from injuries consistent with being run over by the lorry.
His body was removed from the scene and taken to Kangundo Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting postmortem as police investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
