Gachagua Asserts 2027 Election Strategy Amid IEBC Chair Dispute

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has signaled a bold return to national politics, declaring his intent to challenge President William Ruto in 2027 while accusing the State House of manipulating electoral appointments.

In a charged interview on Egesa FM, Gachagua alleged that the newly nominated IEBC chairperson, Erastus Edung Ethekon, was handpicked to serve the interests of the presidency, claiming Ethekon had prior working ties with Josphat Nanok, the Deputy Chief of Staff.

“The one who has been appointed was Nanok’s employee and Nanok serves the President. So they will be trying to control the IEBC from State House,” Gachagua said.

Despite the alleged interference, the former DP remained defiant, saying that the outcome of the 2027 elections will be determined at the polling stations, not at IEBC headquarters.

“IEBC does not choose the winner; it is decided by Kenyans. Our job is to protect the votes at the polling station level and to put the right agents,” he added.

Gachagua also revealed plans to launch a new political faction by the end of May and is reportedly aligning himself with influential figures including Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and Mukhisa Kituyi, as well as former Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiang’i, Justin Muturi, and Mithika Linturi.

His growing coalition signals the formation of a formidable opposition bloc aimed at unseating President Ruto in 2027.
