Can People See Your Drafts on TikTok?

TikTok has quickly become one of the most popular platforms for sharing short videos, creative content, and viral trends. Many users, both new and experienced, take time to polish their videos before posting them publicly. This often involves saving work as a “draft” — a feature that allows you to record, edit, and store a video within the app without publishing it. A common concern that arises among content creators is whether other people can see these drafts.

TikTok Drafts

Drafts on TikTok are unpublished videos that are saved locally on your device. They are typically used for editing later, reviewing before publishing, or simply storing videos you may not be ready to share. Drafts are stored within the app under a tab on your profile that is visible only to you. When you save a video as a draft, it never reaches TikTok’s servers in a public capacity, meaning it is not available for others to view, like, or comment on.

TikTok clearly states that drafts are private and only accessible by the account holder. This ensures that your work-in-progress or personal content remains confidential unless you choose to publish it.

When Drafts May Become Visible

While the drafts themselves cannot be seen by other users, there are a few scenarios where this privacy could be unintentionally compromised. For example, if you log into your TikTok account from another device, the drafts saved on your original device will not appear there because drafts are not stored on TikTok’s cloud—they are saved locally on the device where they were created. However, if someone gains physical access to your phone and opens your TikTok app, they can see your drafts and potentially publish or delete them if you are not careful with your phone’s security.

Also, if you’re filming content with other people and saving the draft while logged in to your account, those individuals cannot view the draft unless you physically show it to them. TikTok doesn’t allow any user—even those tagged in the video—to see the draft unless the video is officially posted.

Keeping Your Drafts Secure

To ensure the security of your drafts, it’s important to keep your device protected with a strong passcode or biometric lock. You can also consider logging out of the TikTok app if you’re not using it for a while, especially on shared or public devices. Additionally, avoid backing up your TikTok app or data to cloud services unless you’re sure of the security protocols in place.

It’s worth noting that deleting the TikTok app from your device will permanently remove all saved drafts. Since the drafts are stored only on your device and not synced to your TikTok account or cloud storage, they cannot be recovered once the app is uninstalled.
