Juja MP George Koimburi Denies Claims Of Faking His Abduction

Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi presented himself at Milimani Law Courts to respond to allegations of faking his own abduction.

The court appearance comes just over a week after an arrest warrant was issued in connection with the case.

Koimburi was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi and faced conspiracy charges linked to the alleged staged kidnapping incident.

The lawmaker pleaded not guilty and was released on a cash bail of sh 300,000, alongside a requirement to provide three contact persons. The next hearing is set for August 5, 2025, for pre-trial proceedings.

The prosecution alleges that on May 25, 2025, Koimburi and five co-accused including Peter Kiratu Muhia, David Macharia Gatana, Cyrus Keriu Muhia, and two others identified as Peter and Njuguna alias “Njugush” orchestrated a fake abduction in the Mugutha area of Juja sub-county.

The motive, prosecutors claim, was to obstruct Koimburi’s impending arrest and arraignment over land fraud charges.

According to the case details, Koimburi was reportedly abducted outside a church service, later “found” in a Ruiru plantation, and then taken to Plainsview Hospital before being transferred to a Nairobi medical facility.

The incident drew condemnation from opposition politicians aligned with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who alleged that Koimburi had been tortured.

However, authorities now contend that the entire abduction was fabricated. In addition to conspiracy, Koimburi faces charges of publishing false information after releasing a press statement via YouTube from Nairobi Hospital, claiming he was kidnapped and tortured.

Co-accused Peter Kiratu Muhia is also charged with giving false information to a public officer for reportedly lodging a police report about the staged abduction, which prompted a police response.

Koimburi’s court appearance marks a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings as the case moves towards trial.

The lawmaker maintains his innocence, and the judicial process will determine the outcome of these serious allegations.
