Alex Mwakideu spills the beans on his short-lived affair with Mzungu lover

Celebrated radio personality Alex Mwakideu has revisited a romantic chapter of his life that he had never before shared publicly.

The Radio 47 breakfast show host recently revealed details of a brief relationship he once had with a Caucasian woman during his time in Germany, where he worked at Deutsche Welle.

Speaking in an interview with Dr. Ofweneke, Mwakideu described the fling as the shortest relationship he has ever experienced.

The veteran journalist recalled meeting the woman, a soldier, back in 2008.

Their romance sparked quickly but ended just as abruptly.

“I once dated a Mzungu, and that was the shortest relationship of my life. I met a lady who was a soldier,” he revealed.

When asked if he would consider dating a Mzungu again, Mwakideu responded with a firm no, attributing his decision to irreconcilable cultural differences.

“Niliona tu siwezi na wazungu, bro. Wazungu wana mambo mingi. If you’re an African child raised in an African way, you can’t date a Mzungu,” he explained.

According to him, such relationships require enormous compromise.

“You must be extremely humble and obedient. You basically have to become a ‘yes sir’ person, and even your social life has to change completely,” he added.

The relationship eventually collapsed during the woman’s visit to Kenya. Mwakideu explained that she struggled to accept his outgoing and sociable nature.

He recounted how she often grew irritated when he interacted warmly with friends, especially female friends.

“She complained about me hugging female friends. On the third day, she stormed out of the club and booked herself into a guesthouse for the rest of her trip,” he said.

Despite his efforts to reassure her that his friendliness was simply part of his career as a radio presenter, the relationship came to an end—just three days into what was supposed to be her three-week stay in Kenya.

“That’s how the story ended. I had to let her go,” Mwakideu concluded.

Finding Love at Home

Thankfully, that short-lived experience didn’t stop him from eventually finding true love back home.

Mwakideu met his now-wife Mariamu Mwamba in 2006 while living in Mombasa. Their relationship blossomed over time, culminating in a white wedding in 2014, though not without persistence on his part.

“Mariamu alinisumbua kweli! I pursued her for years… she kept telling me I wasn’t ready,” Mwakideu once shared during an interview on Churchill Show.

He humorously admitted that he was still dating someone else when he began courting her.

“I had a girlfriend but was still charming her. When I came to Nairobi, I told her I was single, and that’s when she finally accepted me,” he revealed.

The couple went on to build a family and are now proud parents to two beautiful daughters, enjoying their happily ever after.
