Detectives in Bomet County have arrested a suspected drug trafficker found in possession of 350 kilograms of bhang with an estimated street value of sh.7 million.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrest followed a routine patrol by officers from Sotik Police Station along the Sotik-Kaplong Highway, where they flagged down a Toyota Isis vehicle.
The driver, however, abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, raising immediate suspicions.
A search of the car led to the discovery of the narcotics, which had been concealed in seven large sacks.
Determined to apprehend the suspect, investigators launched a manhunt and used forensic leads to trace the suspect to Kibra, Nairobi, where he was found hiding.
The suspect, identified as Diab Asman Bhakit, was arrested and transported back to Sotik Police Station, where he was formally processed and is now awaiting arraignment in court.
Both the seized vehicle and the narcotics were taken to the station and secured as evidence in the ongoing case.
The DCI has reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities.
