The Government of Kenya has released the official program for the state funeral and burial of the late former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, who passed away earlier this week.
The nation will honor the statesman with a series of ceremonies in Nairobi, Kisumu, and his rural home in Bondo, Siaya County.
President William Ruto will lead the country in receiving the body at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), marking the beginning of a multi-day farewell to one of Kenya’s most influential political figures.

Thursday, October 16, 2025
- 1:00 a.m.: The body of Raila Odinga lands in Mumbai from overseas.
- 2:00 a.m.: Departure from Mumbai for Nairobi.
- 8:30 a.m.: Arrival at JKIA, to be received with full honors by H.E. President William Ruto.
- 10:00 a.m.: Transfer of the body to Lee Funeral Home.
- 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.: Procession from Lee Funeral Home to State House.
- 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Public viewing at Parliament Buildings. Members of the public will have an opportunity to pay their last respects to the former Prime Minister.

- 9:00 a.m.: Official State Funeral Service at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi.
- Government officials, dignitaries, international guests, and citizens are expected to attend the solemn ceremony honoring Odinga’s lifetime of service.
Saturday, October 18, 2025
- The body will be flown to Kisumu for a public procession and viewing at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Grounds.
- The event is expected to draw thousands of mourners from across Nyanza and the wider Lake Region.
Sunday, October 19, 2025
- The final burial ceremony will take place in Bondo, Siaya County.
- The service will be conducted by the Anglican Church of Kenya, and will mark the conclusion of the nation’s farewell to a man celebrated as a champion of democracy and freedom.
The government has declared a national mourning period through Sunday, with flags flying at half-mast across the country and at Kenyan embassies worldwide.
Kenyans are expected to turn out in large numbers to honor Raila Odinga, whose decades-long political career helped shape modern Kenya.
His burial in Bondo will bring to a close a historic chapter in the nation’s political life.
