Four officers attached to Maai Mahiu Police Station in Nakuru County have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of their colleague, Corporal Hassan Lolkidid, during a patrol operation in the Msikiti area.
According to a police report, officers Jim Murithi, Emmanuel Sang, Antony Wangombe, and Joshua Keter were taken into custody at Naivasha Police Station following investigations linking them to the shooting and an alleged cover-up of the incident.
The incident occurred on October 29, 2025, when a police patrol team including Corporal Lolkidid, the four suspects, and officers Richard Muriithi and Wycliffe Okello responded to a tip-off about a suspicious lorry offloading tyres and hardware in Msikiti, about one kilometre west of Maai Mahiu Police Station.
Upon arrival, the officers found about ten men offloading the goods. The suspects fled in different directions when the police attempted to interrogate them.
During the pursuit, gunshots were fired, leaving Corporal Lolkidid with a fatal chest wound.
Following the incident, the patrol team initially denied firing any shots, stating the source of the gunfire was unclear.
All five officers’ firearms including Jericho pistols and Ceska handguns were confiscated for ballistic examination.
The lorry involved was towed to Maai Mahiu Police Station for further investigation, while the body of the deceased officer was moved to Umme Funeral Home pending an autopsy.
Preliminary investigations later revealed that the four arrested officers were linked to attempts to cover up the circumstances surrounding Corporal Lolkidid’s death.
The officers are scheduled to be arraigned on October 31, 2025.
