Lazima ni-behave: Kanyari vows to ditch controversial lifestyle after getting custody of kids with Betty Bayo

Self-proclaimed prophet Victor Kanyari has announced that he is turning over a new leaf following the death of his ex-wife, gospel singer Betty Bayo.

Kanyari revealed that he plans to abandon his controversial lifestyle now that he has been left with the responsibility of raising the two children he shared with the late musician.

Addressing his congregants during a Sunday, November 23, sermon, the cleric vowed to become a responsible, drama-free father as his children, Sky and Danny, are now fully under his care.

According to Kanyari, he can no longer continue living the way he used to with his children depending on him.

He stressed that he must adopt a more disciplined lifestyle for the sake of his young ones.

“I have so many things ambazo ziko mbele yangu. Sasa nimewachiwa watoto lazima nibehave. Lazima nibehave maana sasa I have children around. Siwezi endelea kucheza vile nilikuwa nikicheza. Lazima niwe serious sana kwa sababu sasa I have two young children, Sky and Danny, ambao sasa I have to take care of them,” he said.

His remarks came amid heated public debate over who, between him and Betty Bayo’s husband, Tash, would be granted custody of the minors following their mother’s sudden demise.

The discussion intensified further after Kanyari’s brother made controversial comments about the issue during a candle-lighting ceremony, sparking online outrage over what many Kenyans deemed insensitive timing.

Kanyari’s brother, also a preacher, praised him for having a “big heart” and maintaining a cordial relationship with his ex-wife even after their divorce.

“Unfortunately, imekuwa vile ambavyo imekuwa, and Pastor Kanyari… nasema kwamba ako na roho kubwa because mimi ningeambiwa nilie sababu ya ex wangu mimi labda nimkimbize. I know we share the same sentiments with many of us seated here. When you are told about your ex and you remember the things they did to you,” he said.

He added that the family was waiting for their nephews and nieces to return to their father’s home.

“You feel like crying, but now we have someone called Kanyari. We are all gathered here because of Betty Bayo, and today I can say that those kids will come back to his arms, amen,” he added.

Kanyari’s brother also expressed hope that their children would grow up together, noting, with a touch of humour, that Kanyari’s children speak better English than their cousins.

Kanyari has previously stated that his brothers often avoid taking their children to expensive schools, viewing it as unnecessary.

“It is our prayer that they can stay together with their cousins because I also have kids, and they will stay together. They will teach our kids their perfect English. I am so happy that the kids will come back because I was wondering how he will co-parent with a fellow man. Betty was the superglue, and now you cannot co-parent with another man. Wherever he is, let him know we are waiting for what is rightfully ours,” he said.
