Old Man Overcame with Emotion Hearing Raila Odinga Tribute Song, Parks Car to Mourn


The death of iconic Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga has deeply affected many Kenyans.

Three months after his death in India, some Kenyans are still struggling to cope with the loss, Nairobi News has learned.

Content creator Sammyro recently shared an encounter highlighting this sentiment: he came across an elderly man who was visibly moved by a tribute song dedicated to Raila Odinga.

In a video posted by Sammyro and seen by Nairobi News, the man stopped his car beside Sammyro’s and was overcome with emotion upon hearing the song playing in Sammyro’s car.

He spent a considerable amount of time silently weeping in his car while listening to the song.

Sammyro was also moved by the encounter and expressed his sorrow while sharing the old man’s story, questioning if indeed Kenyans will ever heal from Raila’s death.

In his caption, Sammyro wrote:

“Will his people ever heal?”

Many online users echoed Sammyro’s sentiments, confirming that it would take them a long time to forget “Baba.”

Raila Odinga, the Kenyan opposition leader and former Prime Minister, died of cardiac arrest at the age of 80 on October 15,2025.

He was in India receiving medical treatment for diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease and collapsed during a morning walk in Kerala.

His death led to widespread mourning in Kenya, with leaders and supporters commemorating his significant impact on Kenyan politics, and a state funeral was held in his honor.
