Massive Public Support for a People-Powered Campaign

Since announcing his presidential bid a couple of months ago, Kenyans from across the country and in the diaspora have rallied behind Maraga’s campaign.

According to figures shared publicly by David Maraga ‘s team, 1,834 supporters have contributed to the growing campaign kitty, with contributions collectively reaching Sh7,745,788.

A significant portion of these funds, more than Sh6 million came from Kenyans living abroad, underlining the strong backing the former Chief Justice enjoys among the diaspora community.

Information reaching Nairobi News indicates that the fundraising drive is still ongoing, with many more contributions continuing to pour in as Kenyans across the world rally to support Maraga’s bid.

From Transparency Questions to Public Confidence

Earlier in his campaign, Maraga had publicly disclosed his financial status, revealing his net worth and openly acknowledging that he did not have vast personal resources to fund a costly presidential campaign, a stark contrast to many of his competitors.

That candid admission initially sparked debate and speculation about whether he could effectively finance his campaign.

However, Maraga assured the public that Kenyans who trust his leadership would step up, and they have showcasing a powerful example of collective giving in support of a candidate they believe in.

To facilitate contributions, Maraga shared details of his official donation platform, where supporters can give using M-Pesa, credit card, PayPal, Stripe, and other digital methods, with contributions accepted from as little as Sh50.

A New Model of Political Funding

The successful fundraising underscores a broader shift in how some Kenyans are choosing to engage with the political process moving away from the traditional model where candidates are funded by wealthy patrons or political brokers.

Instead, Maraga’s campaign has tapped into what many observers describe as a people-powered movement, driven by trust, integrity, and shared aspirations for the future.

Looking Ahead to 2027

As he continues to prepare for the 2027 presidential race, Maraga’s early fundraising milestone of Sh7.7 million is being seen not just as a financial boost but as a symbolic affirmation of the trust many Kenyans have placed in him.

His campaign is centred on renewing constitutional governance, empowering citizens especially young voters and promoting ethical leadership.

Maraga is among several opposition leaders determined to challenge President William Ruto in the upcoming election, but his unique fundraising strategy and broad-based support from ordinary citizens have distinguished his campaign in the early stages of the race.

Whether this wave of grassroots backing will translate into political victory remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Maraga has proven that Kenyans can genuinely support a politician they believe in when they trust them and they’ve already started putting their money where their hopes are.
