Journalist Samira Mohammed reveals ordeal behind investigation into prophet Owuor’s ministry

TV47 journalist Samira Mohammed has disclosed details of what she describes as a tense and exhausting investigation into Prophet David Owuor’s Repentance and Holiness Ministry, raising fresh questions about alleged manipulation and attempted bribery during the making of an exposé titled “Divine or Deceptive?”

The investigative report examined claims of miraculous HIV/AIDS healings within the ministry.

According to Samira, her team spent nearly ten hours at the prophet’s residence during an interview session that began at 3 pm and ended at 1 am the following morning.

She alleged that for much of the time, a large screen displayed what she termed staged or unverified miracles, managed by a young man who operated it under strict supervision.

“We arrived at his residence at 3 pm and left at around 1 am. For the larger part of the time we were there, there was a large screen with a young man controlling it, displaying what we believed to be fake miracles,” Samira said.

The journalist further claimed that church workers, including bishops, are provided with housing, food, clothing, fuel, and school fees for their children but do not receive direct salaries.

She alleged that this arrangement fosters dependency on the ministry’s leadership.

According to Samira, competition for positions within the church hierarchy is intense, with followers seeking proximity to the prophet for access to benefits.

She added that some senior professionals, including doctors, lawyers, and engineers, are among members of the ministry.

Samira also claimed that when she requested data on individuals allegedly healed of HIV/AIDS, church leaders declined to provide figures and instead convened an internal meeting.

She alleged that some individuals were contacted prior to interviews and coached on what to say.

In addition, she claimed that Prophet Owuor sent Sh 20,000 to each member of the TV47 crew, allegedly describing the money as a blessing from the Lord.

The journalist suggested the gesture was intended to discourage the airing of the investigative report.

The exposé has sparked public debate over the authenticity of the ministry’s healing claims and the conduct of its leadership.

The ministry has not publicly responded to the specific allegations raised in the broadcast.
