Police in Mathare, Nairobi, arrested a 29-year-old man and recovered a pistol loaded with seven rounds of ammunition in Kosovo area.
The arrest was made on Thursday following what police described as actionable intelligence.
Police said a team proceeded to the area where they spotted a man walking along an alley.
The officers stopped and searched him, recovering a Pietro Beretta Mini pistol, tucked under his belt on the right side of his trousers.
The firearm was loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The firearm and ammunition were booked as exhibits as police commenced further investigations into their possession.
Meanwhile, police in Imenti Central, Meru County, have arrested a 54-year-old woman after a 35-year-old man died from a stab wound at her homestead in Gakuuri Village.
The deceased was identified as Felix Mwaki, who was reportedly in a relationship with the suspect.
Police were alerted on Thursday morning after Mwaki was found with a serious injury to his neck.
Police visited the scene and established that the injury appeared to have been inflicted by a sharp object.
A kitchen knife suspected to have been used in the incident was recovered at the scene and preserved as an exhibit for forensic examination.
During preliminary inquiries, Kathure allegedly told police that Mwaki accidentally fell onto the knife.
However, her 24-year-old son gave investigators a different account, alleging that his mother threw a muffin containing a knife towards Mwaki while attempting to wake him after he had allegedly become intoxicated. The knife reportedly pierced Mwaki.
Police said the conflicting accounts are subject to further investigation and verification.
The scene was processed and Mwaki’s body was moved to Kanyakine Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
The woman was arrested and is expected to be arraigned at Githongo Law Courts on Friday, August 14, for custodial orders to allow police to complete their investigations.
