Two-year-old boy dies in suspected gas explosion fire in Lang’ata

A two-year-old boy died after a suspected gas explosion triggered a fire that destroyed six houses in the Nyando Bridge area of Lang’ata, Nairobi.

The incident occurred on Friday, November 6, 2026, at around 6.20pm.

Police officers from Lang’ata Police Station and Highrise Police Post rushed to the scene, where members of the public had already contained the fire.

According to police, the fire is suspected to have been triggered by a gas explosion before spreading to neighbouring rooms.

The toddler, identified as Eugene Musili, was burnt to death in the incident.

His mother and another son sustained injuries and were rushed to Mbagathi District Hospital, where they were reported to be in fair condition.

The inferno destroyed six mabati houses alongside household items whose value had not been established.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers visited and processed the scene, while the child’s body was moved to Nairobi Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspected gas explosion.
