Kenyan forex trader and social media personality Kenyan Prince has expressed his disappointment with musician Bahati after attending an event he believed would be the singer’s much-anticipated wedding to his longtime partner, Diana Marua, only for it to turn into a political campaign launch.
The incident happened on Friday, November 6, at the Argyle Grand Hotel in Nairobi, where Bahati and Diana had invited guests for what had been advertised as an exclusive celebration of their 10-year relationship.
The event had generated considerable excitement in the weeks leading up to the big day, particularly after the celebrity couple announced that invitations would cost Sh 1 million, with attendance reportedly limited to only 100 guests.
Several prominent personalities were associated with the invitation campaign, with some publicly confirming their participation in the highly publicised celebration.
However, guests who arrived expecting to witness a wedding ceremony were treated to an unexpected announcement when Bahati took to the stage and declared his intention to contest the Mathare parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
The musician, whose real name is Kevin Kioko, officially announced his political ambitions, explaining that he wanted to represent the constituency where he grew up.
His announcement caught the attention of many Kenyans, with some questioning whether the expensive wedding invitations had been part of a wider strategy to introduce his political ambitions to the public.
Among those who appeared dissatisfied with the development was Kenyan Prince, who took to social media on Saturday, November 7, to narrate his experience at the event.
In a video shared online, the forex trader openly criticised Bahati, suggesting that guests had been misled into believing they were attending a wedding.
“Yesterday Bahati took advantage of us,” Kenyan Prince said while expressing his disappointment.
Despite his dissatisfaction, he acknowledged that the evening had one memorable moment, singling out renowned preacher Reverend Lucy Natasha for her appearance and encouraging message.
According to Kenyan Prince, the preacher shared a message from Joshua 1:9, which encourages believers to remain strong and courageous despite the challenges they face.
His remarks sparked reactions among social media users, with some Kenyans finding humour in the unexpected turn of events.

Betty Msoh commented;
“Pwagu kapata pwaguzi,”
Tony Stonny wrote;
“Hacker meets developer.”
The reactions reflected the growing online conversation surrounding the event, with some users questioning the decision to combine a supposed wedding celebration with a political announcement.
Bahati and Diana had spent several weeks building anticipation around their November 6 celebration. On October 7, the couple announced plans to mark their 10 years together through a lavish ceremony.
Bahati later revealed that only 100 guests would be accommodated, with each invitation reportedly going for Sh 1 million.
The unusual price attracted widespread attention, with Kenyans debating whether anyone would be willing to spend such a huge amount to attend a celebrity wedding.
Beauty entrepreneur Phoina Tosha was among the personalities reported to have secured two invitations worth Sh 2 million, while other public figures were also associated with the exclusive event.
The couple continued sharing updates about their preparations on social media, further increasing curiosity about the ceremony.
However, the political announcement eventually overshadowed the celebrations, turning what had been marketed as a major relationship milestone into a discussion about Bahati’s political future.
During his address, the musician explained that his decision to seek the Mathare parliamentary seat was influenced by his upbringing and personal experiences in the constituency.
Bahati has previously spoken about losing his parents at a young age and growing up in difficult circumstances before finding success in the gospel music industry.
He has often used his personal story to explain his determination to overcome adversity and build a successful career.
His political ambitions are not entirely new. Bahati previously contested the Mathare parliamentary seat during the 2022 General Election but lost to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Anthony Oluoch.
His latest announcement signals his intention to make another attempt at securing the constituency’s parliamentary seat in 2027.
The move also highlights the growing relationship between Kenya’s entertainment industry and politics, with several musicians and celebrities expressing interest in elective positions.
For now, Kenyan Prince’s public criticism has added another twist to the controversy surrounding Bahati’s Sh million wedding invitations.
What many guests expected to be an exclusive celebration of love has instead become a major talking point about celebrity publicity, expensive invitations and the intersection of entertainment and politics in Kenya.
