President William Ruto issued several directives and pledges during the emotional burial ceremony of Johana Ng’eno and four others, promising development projects and support to the affected families.
The late Johana Ng’eno, who served as the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr Constituency, was laid to rest on Friday, March 6, 2026, at his Mogondo home in Narok County during a ceremony attended by thousands of mourners, including national and county leaders.
Ng’eno died in a tragic helicopter crash on February 28 in Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, alongside several aides while travelling from an event in Endebess, Trans Nzoia County.

A joint funeral service was held at Emurua Dikirr Primary School before the bodies were taken to their respective homes for burial, as leaders and residents paid tribute to the late lawmaker’s leadership and dedication to his constituents.
During the ceremony, President Ruto announced a series of presidential directives and promises aimed at honouring the late MP and assisting the families of those who died in the crash.
Ruto’s Directives and Pledges
Among the key promises made by the President were:
KSh 750 million for education: The government will allocate KSh 750 million to establish a Maasai Mara Constituency College branch in Emurua Dikirr in honour of the late MP Johana Ng’eno.
Teacher employment support: The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) employment letter that had been issued to the late Carlos Keter will be redirected to his sister.
Support for Nick Kosgey’s family: Ruto promised to fulfil all issues raised by the family of Nick Kosgey, one of the victims.
Education support for Amos’s family: The government will take responsibility for paying school fees for students in the family studying at Kisii University.
Mike Sonko popularly known as Sonko Belgut pledged to sponsor one student. Brighton promised to sponsor another.
Employment opportunity: The wife of Wycliff Rono, a former SportPesa employee, will be offered a job at the Ministry of Agriculture.
Support for artists: The State will set aside KSh 20 million annually to support artists in honour of the late Johana Ng’eno, recognising his efforts in promoting creative talent.
Renaming of Shauri Moyo Estate: The Ministry of Housing will rename Shauri Moyo Estate in honour of the late MP.
Direct financial support: Each affected family will receive KSh 2 million as government support.
Church project: The government will allocate KSh 5 million to complete construction of a local church linked to the community.
Markets development: The President pledged to oversee the completion of all 12 markets in Narok County.
Land for squatters: The government will purchase 1,500 acres of land in Angata Barikoi to resettle squatters.
Road construction: A new Class B road from Chebole to Dikir will be constructed to improve connectivity in the region.

Legacy of Johana Ng’eno
The late Ng’eno, who was serving his third term in Parliament, was widely remembered as a vocal leader and grassroots mobiliser who championed development initiatives in his constituency.
Leaders who attended the burial described his death as a huge loss not only to the people of Emurua Dikirr but also to the broader South Rift region, with many urging the government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of the five individuals.
President Ruto said the numerous projects and directives announced during the funeral were meant to preserve Ng’eno’s legacy and ensure the families of those who died alongside him receive support from the government.
