Man rescued by Eric Omondi over rent arrears issue accuses comedian of scamming him Sh300k

A Kenyan man who previously captured national attention after being evicted over rent arrears has resurfaced with serious allegations against popular comedian Eric Omondi, claiming he was scammed out of funds raised on his behalf.

The man, identified as Ishmael, says he has decided to speak out months after his plight went viral across Kenya.

His case had drawn widespread sympathy after he, his wife, and their young child were rendered homeless when their landlord reportedly unhooked the door to their rented house due to unpaid rent.

At the time, a heartbreaking video of Ishmael explaining his situation circulated widely on social media, catching the attention of Eric Omondi.

Moved by the family’s struggle, the comedian rallied Kenyans to support them through his Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative, an online movement that mobilizes public contributions to help people in urgent need.

According to reports, Kenyans responded overwhelmingly, contributing over Sh300,000 intended to clear Ishmael’s rent arrears and ensure that his child could continue attending school without disruption.

The fundraiser was widely praised as another example of collective goodwill and community support.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Ishmael has now alleged that he never received any of the money raised on his behalf.

Speaking in a recent video that has since sparked debate online, he claimed that despite the generosity shown by Kenyans, neither he nor his family benefited from the contributions.

“Kenyans helped me, but I never received even a single shilling. To date, I am still in darkness with my family,” Ishmael revealed.

He further claimed that his situation did not improve even after the widely publicized fundraiser, raising concerns about the fate of the funds that were meant to help him rebuild his life.

The matter gained further traction on Tuesday evening, March 17, when it was highlighted by presenters Billy Miya and Mbaruk Mwalimu on the Maskani 47 show aired on Radio 47.

The hosts discussed the allegations in detail, expressing concern over the claims and the implications for public trust in online fundraising initiatives.

During the broadcast, the presenters revealed that they had attempted to reach Eric Omondi to get his side of the story, but their calls reportedly went unanswered, leaving many questions unresolved.

The allegations have since sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans online.

While some have called for accountability and transparency regarding the funds, others have urged caution, emphasizing the need to hear both sides before drawing conclusions.

Eric Omondi, who has built a reputation for philanthropy through his Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative, has yet to publicly respond to the claims at the time of publication.

As the story continues to unfold, many are now watching closely for clarification, hoping that the truth behind the fundraiser, and the fate of the Sh300,000, will come to light.
