Man dies after assault in Gatundu, Kiambu County


Police in Gatundu North Sub-County, Kiambu County, have launched investigations into the death of a man who succumbed to injuries under unclear circumstances, in a case being treated as a suspected murder.

Nelson Njuguna Muturi was initially found lying by the roadside opposite Ndekei Primary School with blood oozing from his nose, mouth, and ears.

Family members rushed him to Ngorongo Health Centre, where he received treatment and was later discharged.

However, when relatives checked on him the following day, they found him at his home in a weak and unresponsive condition. He was immediately taken to Thika Level 5 Hospital for further medical attention but succumbed to his injuries.

The body was transferred to General Kago Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.

Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the injuries and subsequent death as detectives seek to establish whether foul play was involved.

And there was drama when police in Githurai Sub-County, Kiambu County, intervened to rescue a motorist after an accident triggered a violent confrontation involving boda boda riders along the Mwihoko–Githurai road.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 7:00 p.m. when the driver of a blue Toyota Carib was involved in a collision with a motorcycle. The motorcycle was carrying three passengers.

Following the accident, a group of boda boda riders allegedly descended on the motor vehicle and began attacking it with crude weapons, causing extensive damage.

Police officers who responded to the scene were forced to fire warning shots into the air to disperse the crowd and restore order. The officers successfully rescued the driver, who sustained minor injuries, and secured the damaged vehicle, which was later towed to the police station.

The driver, the motorcycle rider, and the three passengers were treated at Remitek Health Facility and subsequently discharged.

Police confirmed that no one was injured by the warning shots fired during the operation. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
