Man Arrested in Kayole Over Fatal Stabbing of Wife in Kiambu


Detectives from Githurai have arrested a 59-year-old man who had been on the run after allegedly fatally stabbing his wife during a domestic dispute in Mwihoko, Kiambu County.

The suspect, identified as Charles Maina Karungae Kibue, was apprehended in Kayole following a manhunt launched after the death of 47-year-old Elizabeth Wambui on June 14, 2026.

According to investigators, the incident occurred at Wambui’s shop in the Delta area of Mwihoko Township, where a disagreement between the couple reportedly escalated into violence.

Police said the suspect allegedly stabbed his wife on the right side of the chest using a spearhead before fleeing the scene.

According to a report lodged at Mwihoko Police Station, a domestic altercation erupted at Wambui’s shop in the Delta area of Mwihoko Township. During the confrontation, the husband allegedly stabbed the wife on the right side of the chest with a spearhead,” detectives said.

Officers who responded to the scene found Wambui lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries.

“Officers responded swiftly to the scene, discovering Wambui lying in a pool of her own blood and bleeding profusely,” the investigators stated.

She was rushed to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“Despite efforts to save her life, she was sadly pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital,” police said.

Her body was later transferred to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.

Crime scene investigators recovered a bloodstained spearhead believed to have been used in the attack.

“At the crime scene, investigators recovered the murder weapon, a bloodstained spearhead, which has been secured as an exhibit,” detectives confirmed.

Following the incident, police launched investigations and tracked the suspect using forensic leads, eventually locating him at a hideout in Kayole.

The suspect remains in police custody and is undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court.
