Security officers have disrupted a suspected illegal firearms supply network after arresting a high-profile suspect believed to be a key player in the illicit arms trade.
The suspect was intercepted on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the Kanyonyo Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP) while reportedly travelling towards Nairobi, following a targeted intelligence-led operation by officers from the National Police Service (NPS).
According to police, a thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of firearms and a large cache of ammunition, which investigators believe were part of an illegal consignment intended for criminal activities.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect has been involved in the illegal sale, supply and distribution of firearms and ammunition across several regions, raising concerns over the role of criminal networks in fuelling insecurity.

Police said the arrest has dealt a major blow to a suspected criminal supply chain that was allegedly supplying weapons to individuals and groups involved in unlawful activities within Nairobi and surrounding areas.
Following the interception, detectives have launched further investigations aimed at identifying other members of the network, including possible suppliers, intermediaries and buyers involved in the illegal arms trade.
The suspect remains in police custody and is assisting investigators as they work to uncover the full extent of the alleged operation. He is expected to be arraigned in court to face relevant charges once investigations are completed.
The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to combating organized crime, illegal possession of firearms and other security threats as part of efforts to enhance public safety.
Authorities have also urged members of the public to continue sharing information on suspicious activities, noting that cooperation between communities and security agencies remains critical in disrupting criminal networks and preventing violence.
