Police in Migori County are investigating the death of a 36-year-old miner who was killed in an explosion inside a mine in Kuria West Sub-County.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 3pm on July 11 when Daniel Moseti Menganyi was reportedly planting explosives inside the mine in preparation for blasting.
Preliminary investigations indicate that an unknown person allegedly activated the electrical current from outside the mine, triggering an explosion while Menganyi was still inside.
The miner sustained severe head and leg injuries and died before he could be rescued. His body was later retrieved from the mine.
Police officers visited and documented the scene.
The body was moved to Kehancha Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are underway to establish who activated the explosives and the circumstances that led to the fatal blast.

Meanwhile, police in Uasin Gishu County are investigating the death of a two-year-old girl whose body was recovered from Chepkorio Dam in Kapseret Sub-County.
Police received information from members of the public at about 5.30pm on July 11 that the body of a child was floating in the dam in Megun Sub-location, Ngeria Location, about 10 kilometres east of the station.
Police officers, accompanied by Scene of Crime personnel, visited the scene and retrieved the body of the child, identified as Tamara Jepchumba, aged about two years.
The scene was documented before the body, which had no visible external injuries, was moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the child’s death.
