The government has announced a series of appointments, reappointments and mining licence applications in the latest edition of the Kenya Gazette published on July 17, 2026, signaling fresh changes in leadership across key public institutions.
The Gazette notices, issued by various ministries and state agencies, touch on sectors including health, education, water, mining and county governments, with several officials appointed to oversee regulatory bodies and state corporations for the next three years.
In the health sector, Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale appointed new members to the Council of the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute and the Public Health Officers and Technicians Council. He also named Dr. Charles Jakait Sangalo as a member of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
According to the Gazette notice, the appointments took effect on July 17, 2026, and are aimed at strengthening governance and professional oversight within the healthcare sector.
The education sector also saw several leadership changes, with Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba reappointing Prof. Ahmed Kibet Ferej as Chairperson of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council.
Ogamba further reappointed Prof. Andrew Rasugu Otachi Riechi and Kibiwott Munge to the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) Governing Council and appointed Margaret Njaggah as a new council member.
In the water sector, Cabinet Secretary Eric Muriithi Mugaa reappointed Mary Kanana Mwiti and Ubah Kahiye to the National Irrigation Authority Board and appointed Gilbert Bwire Wangalwa as a new member.
The Gazette also carried several notices from the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs regarding applications for mining and prospecting licences in Kilifi, Makueni, Bomet and Kakamega counties.
Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho invited members of the public and affected communities to submit comments or objections within the specified timelines before the licences are considered.
“Any objection by any person or community against the grant of the mining licence may be submitted to the Cabinet Secretary within the stipulated period,” the Gazette notice states.
Among the applications is a proposal by Leibra Investments Limited to mine manganese in Kilifi County, while Kilungu Kaolin Limited has applied for a prospecting licence for tremolite in Makueni County.
At the county level, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir appointed Bennette Nzamba as Chairperson of the Mombasa County Elimu Scheme Board, while Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai appointed Peter Lolem Ekuwom as Chairperson of the County Rural and Urban Affordable Housing Committee.
Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal announced its annual August recess, which will run from August 1 to September 15, 2026.
Acting President of the Court of Appeal Wanjiru Karanja said the court registry will remain operational on weekdays between 9 a.m. and noon to handle urgent matters.
“A Judge or Judges will be in attendance for the disposal of any urgent business during the recess,” the notice states.
The latest Gazette edition also includes notices on provisional land title certificates, environmental impact assessment reports, public finance updates, insolvency matters, disposal of court records and changes of names.
The announcements form part of routine government operations aimed at ensuring continuity in public service delivery, strengthening institutional governance and facilitating public participation in key development projects.
