26-year-old man found dead in borehole in Bungoma

A 26-year-old man was found dead inside a borehole in Bungoma South Sub-County after a resident went to fetch water from the facility.

The body of Joseph Juma Nyongesa was discovered at about 11am on Monday, September 28, 2026, at a borehole within a compound in Bungoma.

According to police, the resident who went to fetch water noticed a human body floating inside the borehole and alerted the authorities.

Police officers and DCI detectives visited the scene and, with the assistance of members of the public, retrieved the body.

Police identified the deceased as Nyongesa, who was reportedly the son of a neighbour to the owner of the borehole.

Preliminary observations indicated that Nyongesa had a rope tied around his neck, with the other end secured to the lid of the borehole. No visible injuries were observed on the body apart from the rope around his neck.

Crime Scene Investigation officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation and post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

And police in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County, have launched investigations into the killing of an unidentified man who was found with deep cut wounds in a sugarcane plantation in Kooro Village, Kobita Location.

The body was discovered on Sunday, September 27, 2026, following a report made to Pala Police Post.

Police visited the scene and found the body of an unidentified adult male with deep cut wounds on the neck, ribs and both hands.

Police said an assailant who was armed with a panga, then attacked the deceased, inflicting multiple injuries that led to his death.

The scene was processed by investigators before the body was removed and taken to the Homa Bay County Referral Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.

Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
