Man Electrocuted While Connecting Power In Embakasi, Nairobi

A man was electrocuted as he connected power to his house in Embakasi area, Nairobi.

The body of Francis Njau was found lying on his veranda long after he had been electrocuted on Monday morning.

Neigbours heard him scream and when they went to check they found the body lying at the veranda as he held a live wire.

The police were called to the scene and moved the body to the mortuary.

Such incidents are common in informal settlements amid claims they occur because of illegal power connections.

There is a campaign to address the menace, officials say, amid fears they will increase with the onset of rains in most parts of the country.

Meanwhile, three people died separately in unclear circumstances.

In the first incident, a girl aged eight collapsed and died as she fed in their house in Mkuru Kwa Njenga area, Nairobi.

The girl was taking her supper when she suddenly collapsed and fell on her head on Sunday March 9 night.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

In Huruma, Nairobi, one Winnie Masai died after she complained of abdominal pains.

Her husband told police the deceased had complained of pain in the abdomen and decided to take some drugs.

The condition, however persisted, prompting him to take her to the hospital in the area where she died on arrival.

In Ruai, a man was found dead near a bar.

The owner of the outlet told police he saw the deceased lying in a trench and when he went to check on him he realized he was unresponsive.

Police picked up the body to the mortuary for autopsy.

Police said they are investigating the incidents.

The bodies are lying in mortuaries pending autopsies and other procedures, police said.
