A postmortem has revealed that Amos Langat, the man allegedly shot dead by police officer Mohamed Yusuf Keinan, attached to the office of State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, was shot seven times at close range.
Langat’s tragic death occurred on Sunday night during a dispute over a pool game in Amboseli, Kawangware, which ended in gunfire.
According to Langat’s family, he suffered four gunshot wounds to the stomach and three to the chest during the altercation.
Despite the severity of the incident, the suspect, Keinan, who is reportedly hospitalized, has not been formally arrested.
Detectives have confirmed he remains under police guard while investigations continue.
Grief and sorrow filled the atmosphere at Chiromo Funeral Parlour, where Langat’s family and friends gathered for the postmortem report.
Among those present were officers from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), who are now investigating the case involving Keinan.
The autopsy confirmed the family’s worst fears Langat had sustained seven gunshot wounds, with four in the stomach and three in the chest.
“Our brother was shot in the chest, it broke our hearts when we saw it. We’re planning to take him home, but we are devastated by how he died,” said Langat’s brother, Enoch Langat.
Langat’s friend, Joel Chemisto, added, “He was shot multiple times in the stomach. I counted about seven myself.”
What began as a casual pool game quickly escalated into a fatal encounter.
“Amos was a young man, he had just gotten married recently, and he has a very young child who doesn’t even understand what’s happening.
We are asking the government for help. As his family and friends, we want justice for Amos,” Chemisto said.
With heavy hearts, Langat’s family is now making arrangements to transport his body to Bureti, Kericho County.
While the burial date is yet to be determined, their demand for justice remains resolute.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Yusuf Keinan, the primary suspect, has not been arrested. Instead, he reportedly checked himself into a local hospital, claiming injuries to his hand and shoulder.
Detectives have confirmed he remains under police guard as they await a medical report, which will determine the next steps in the investigation.
