The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has called on the public to refrain from sharing images of the tragic accident along the Kaplong-Litein Road, which claimed the lives of 13 people.

In a statement issued on Saturday night, NTSA confirmed that emergency services had concluded their work at the scene, and the injured were receiving medical care.

The authority also extended condolences to the families and friends of the victims and asked for respect by urging the public to avoid circulating graphic images from the crash site.

“As we mourn with the families and friends of those affected, we kindly request members of the public to show respect and refrain from sharing images of the crash,” NTSA’s statement read.

In parallel, the National Police Service (NPS) has launched an investigation to establish the cause of the accident.

Preliminary findings suggest the collision occurred when a public service vehicle collided head-on with a lorry.

The NPS also urged road users to exercise extreme caution to prevent further accidents.

“The National Police Service calls on all road users to take personal responsibility and follow traffic regulations, particularly when overtaking and observing speed limits,” the NPS statement advised.

The accident, which occurred in the Cheptangulke area of Bomet County, resulted in 13 fatalities and left 11 others with serious injuries.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash: a personal car, a 14-seater matatu, and a truck.

The impact led to the immediate deaths of the 13 victims.

In the aftermath, many Kenyans, including local leaders, have taken to social media to express their condolences to the bereaved families.

Graphic images of the damaged vehicles flooded social media, showing the matatu with a shattered windscreen, broken seats, and deflated tyres.

The truck was seen leaning to one side, while the personal car was completely wrecked.

Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok confirmed the accident, sharing that rescue teams arrived promptly to assist the survivors and transport them to nearby hospitals.

“I am deeply saddened by the horrific road accident on the Sotik-Kericho Highway in Cheptangulke, Sotik Sub County.
