Veteran radio presenter Alex Mwakideu has left Kenyans amused after revealing that a longtime family friend had allegedly concluded that he had joined the infamous Illuminati.
The celebrated media personality took to social media to express his disbelief after learning that the woman, whom he described as a “longtime sister in Christ,” had reached out to his blood sister, Rozinah, from the United States to raise the alarm over his recent appearance.
According to Mwakideu, the concerns were sparked by a photo he had shared online in which he was seen sporting dreadlocks, a Huawei smartwatch, and a ring.

The combination of the accessories and his new look apparently convinced the family friend that the radio host had become a member of the controversial secret society often linked to wealth, fame, and power.
Sharing the hilarious encounter with his followers, Mwakideu posted:
“My long time sister in Christ texted my blood sister Rozinah, all the way from the United States warning her that Alex ameingia Illuminati… Amesema hii Smart watch yangu ya Huawei ni ya Illuminati… Pete pia amesema Straight from Illuminati… Toba yarabi 😂😂😂😂.”
His revelation quickly sparked reactions online, with many social media users finding humour in the assumptions made about the presenter.
Others joked that celebrities often become subjects of bizarre conspiracy theories whenever they change their appearance or acquire new possessions.
The term Illuminati has for years featured prominently in pop culture conversations, with several public figures around the world facing claims of belonging to the alleged secret society.

Despite the lack of credible evidence proving the existence of such celebrity recruitment networks, rumours continue to thrive on social media platforms.
For Mwakideu, however, the accusation appears to have been nothing more than an unexpected source of entertainment.
The media personality has built a reputation for his relatable storytelling and sense of humour both on and off the airwaves.
Over the years, he has become one of Kenya’s most recognisable radio voices, having worked at stations such as Radio Maisha and Milele FM.
He has often used his platforms to share light-hearted moments from his personal life, much to the delight of his fans.
Mwakideu’s latest post once again demonstrated his ability to turn an ordinary family misunderstanding into a moment of national laughter.
While the family friend may have genuinely been concerned, many Kenyans online viewed the incident as yet another reminder of how quickly speculation can spread in the age of social media.
As for the broadcaster himself, he appeared to take the allegations in stride, responding with humour rather than outrage.

One thing is certain: Mwakideu’s dreadlocks, smartwatch, and ring have generated far more conversation than he probably anticipated.
And judging by his reaction, the veteran presenter is still trying to come to terms with the fact that a simple fashion statement almost earned him a place among one of the world’s most talked-about conspiracy theories.
“Toba yarabi,” indeed.
