Blood at the mansion: Robert Mugabe ’s son charged after shooting gardener

The privileged son of late former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has been thrust into the spotlight following a disturbing court case that has sent shockwaves across the region.

Bellarmine Mugabe was recently arraigned in court facing an attempted murder charge, alongside a separate count of defeating the ends of justice, after a shooting incident at the family’s upscale residence in Hyde Park.

According to court proceedings, Bellarmine was taken into police custody last Thursday after a gardener working at the Mugabe family home was shot under circumstances that are still under investigation.

Authorities have not released full details surrounding the motive or sequence of events, but the seriousness of the charges has placed the Mugabe family back under intense public scrutiny.

The case has since been adjourned and is scheduled to resume on March 3, as investigators continue piecing together evidence and witness accounts.

Prosecutors allege that beyond the shooting itself, there were attempts to interfere with the course of justice, a claim that has further complicated the legal battle.

The incident has reignited debate about the lives led by the Mugabe family after Robert Mugabe’s dramatic fall from power in 2017 and his subsequent death in 2019.

Once regarded as one of Africa’s most powerful and controversial leaders, Mugabe ruled Zimbabwe for nearly four decades, presiding over vast political influence while amassing significant wealth, privileges that extended to his immediate family.

Bellarmine, like other members of the Mugabe household, has largely lived away from public life in recent years, making the latest court appearance all the more startling.

Social media users and political commentators have been quick to weigh in, with many pointing to the stark contrast between the former first family’s luxurious lifestyle and the economic hardships still facing millions of Zimbabweans.

As the case unfolds, all eyes will remain on the South African courts to determine Bellarmine Mugabe’s fate, a legal battle that threatens to further tarnish the already controversial legacy of one of Africa’s most polarizing political dynasties.
