Several families are counting their losses after a Thursday morning fire destroyed property of unknown value in Mukuru Fuata Nyayo Village, South B Ward, Nairobi County.
Witnesses said the blaze started at around 2 a.m., causing extensive structural damage. It is believed to have originated in one building before rapidly spreading to neighbouring structures in the early hours of the morning.
Local residents initially attempted to put out the fire, but their efforts were unsuccessful as the flames intensified. They were forced to call for assistance from the Nairobi County government.
Firefighters from the Nairobi City County and the Rescue Services Team arrived moments later and managed to extinguish the blaze, though several buildings had already been consumed.

Images and videos from the scene showed thick smoke engulfing multiple structures as residents rushed to salvage their belongings.
Other footage captured community members helplessly watching their property burn as emergency crews worked to contain the fire.
As of publication time, no injuries or fatalities had been reported.
The incident comes just weeks after another major fire in Garissa on October 27, which left traders counting heavy losses.
That blaze erupted at around 11:40 a.m. and quickly swept through a section of the busy refugee camp market.
The Kenya Red Cross eventually contained the Garissa fire, but not before it destroyed several shops, pharmacies, restaurants, and other commercial establishments.
