As cases of femicide continue to rise in the country, the National Police Service has initiated investigations following a disturbing discovery near Lang’ata Cemetery in Nairobi.
A police report outlines how a male casual worker stumbled upon a severely mutilated body at the cemetery on the morning of Thursday, October 31.
The report, dated the same day, indicates that the remains, primarily consisting of bones, appeared to have been discarded by unknown individuals.
It revealed that the bones were wrapped in a plastic bag and seemed to have been boiled, with the flesh meticulously stripped away.
“Police officers from Lang’ata responded to the scene and confirmed the presence of human bones, entirely devoid of flesh.
The bones, including the skull, were severely cooked,” stated the report.
Initial police investigations suggest that the bones may have been transported from another location and left at the cemetery to conceal the original crime scene.
The motive behind this gruesome act is still unclear, and no arrests have been made thus far.
Local authorities are working on identifying the victim and uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident as the investigation proceeds.
The site was processed and documented by crime scene personnel, and the disturbing find has left many locals in shock.
The remains have been transferred to the Nairobi City Mortuary for further examination and identification.
In a separate case, detectives at the Kasarani police station are on the hunt for a suspect who allegedly murdered his girlfriend before fleeing the scene.
The body of the victim, identified as Lilian Achieng, was discovered in a three-bedroom house in Kahawa West, exhibiting multiple stab wounds inflicted by her assailant.
Investigators found Lilian’s body in a pool of blood on the floor, and the primary suspect in the case has been named as George Mutegi, the owner of the house where the incident occurred.
After committing the crime, it is reported that Mutegi switched off his mobile phone and went into hiding.
Police have recovered a kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon.
The deceased’s body has been taken to the Kenyatta Memorial Funeral Home as investigations continue.
Both incidents raise alarms amid increasing concerns that women are being specifically targeted for murder.
According to Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Eliud Lagat, at least 97 people have been killed in separate incidents over the past three months, specifically in September, October, and November 2024.
In response to these alarming statistics, President William Ruto has directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to ensure thorough investigations into all reported cases and hold perpetrators accountable.
“We have seen a troubling rise in incidents where our girls, mothers, and women have been murdered in cold blood.
The DCI and all investigative agencies must rise to the challenge and confront these criminals decisively,” Ruto stated.
He also urged the public to exercise caution against individuals who may lure women and girls into dangerous situations.
