Kafengo Offered Government Job By Itumbi During Mr KK Mwenyewe’s Burial


Comedian Mr KK Mwenyewe has been laid to rest at their rural home in Lari, Kiambu county, Nairobi News can authoritatively report.

The fallen comedian was given a befitting send-off on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in an emotional ceremony attended by various celebrities and government representatives.

During Mr KK Mwenyewe’s burial, one of his closest friends and fellow comedian Kafengo was offered a government job thanks to his loyalty to the late star.

Speaking during the burial, Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy, Dennis Itumbi publicly declared that that Kafengo would be employed by to assist in the government’s digital content creation efforts starting next week.

“Kafengo amekuwa akifanya kazi na KK Mwenyewe, na watu wengi kwa mtandao wameniambia tusaidiane na yeye. Sasa, mimi nitachukua Kafengo. Nimpatie kazi ili aweze kusaidia kuaddress mambo ya digital content creation na iyo kazi ataanza Monday,” Itumbi declared.

Itumbi’s declaration, rather promise was received well by content creators who had attended KK’s burial ceremony.

Many who spoke to different online media after the announcement disclosed that Kafengo rightly deserves the job having had a strong working relationship with the deceased.

While Itumbi’s job offer received positive applause, his speech was interrupted by mourners who started jeering and shouting the ‘Wantam’ slogan.

The situation got even worse when Itumbi mentioned that the government has been in the forefront in supporting content creators, especially on matters monetisation.

“All these issues that content creators have mentioned here about what the government should do for the content creation space are the very things I have been championing. The first major challenge that content creators face, and how they will earn from the content they create, is monetisation,” Itimbi stated.

One of the mourners even went as far as shouting, “Unatudanganya buana!” accusing Itumbi and Kenya Kwanza government of making empty promises to creatives.

Itumbi tried to defend his statement with;

“I do not think these content creators are here for Wantam nonsense. Content creation is a lifetime commitment.” 

However, that sparked even louder chants of “uongo, uongo,” forcing him to pause his speech for a moment.

It took the intervention of the ceremony’s emcee to save Itumbi from the awkward stance.

“Naomba tafadhali, tafadhali tusikilizane. Si pia tumepea hawa wengine nafasi waongee,” the MC pleaded with the mourners.

Itumbi, in a bid to bring back calm promised that creators whose Facebook pages had not yet been monetised would receive support through the President Creatives email platform.

He also revealed that popular digital creator Kabugi would lead the formation of a Sacco to help structure government support for online talents.

Not long ago, Kenyans picked issue with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after coming out to mourn and condole with family and friends of fallen comedian Zakaria Kariuki alias Mr KK Mwenyewe.

The former Deputy President on the evening of Tuesday, July 15, took to social media to mourn Mr KK Mwenyewe who used to mimmic him in most of his online skits.

As earlier reported by Nairobi News, Zakaria died on the evening of Monday, July 14, at the Kiambu Level 5 Hospital while undergoing treatment.

Various notable public figures including politicians and celebrities were shaken by news of Zakaria’s demise and duly mourned him through different social media platforms.

Joining the bandwagon, Rigathi followed suit but his condolence message was received by hostility from countless netizens.

In his Facebook post, the DCP party leader wrote;

“I have this morning woken up to the sad demise of Mr. Zachariah Kariuki alias Mr. KK Mwenyewe, a content creator per excellence and inspiration to many.

Mr. KK, a young, consistent, and resilient young man, used comedy to communicate simple and creative messages to all Kenyans and spoke to our hearts.

I send my deepest sympathies to his family and his friends at this difficult moment. 

I especially I condole the creative industry on the loss of a champion whose creative eye lives with us for days to come. 

May his soul rest in eternal peace, and God grant his family peace.”

His message rubbed many social media users the wrong way and they did not hesitate to tell him off through the comments section of his own post.

A number of those who attacked Gachagua called him a hypocrite for snubbing the comedian when he was still alive and only coming out to mourn him in his death.

Many stated that Mr KK Mwenyewe sought audience with the former Deputy President when he could not pay his school fees but the latter gave him a cold shoulder.

According to Gachagua’s critics, the politician was chasing for cheap publicity with his condolence message.
