KMPDU Announces Promotion of 19 Consultants in Embu County

The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has announced that Embu County has promoted 19 medical consultants, marking what the union described as a major milestone for doctors in the region.

According to KMPDU, the promotions follow years of persistent advocacy after doctors in Embu reportedly remained stagnant in 2021 while their counterparts in other counties advanced.

The union said sustained follow-ups, strategic media engagement, and two industrial actions the most recent in December 2025 contributed to the breakthrough.

The union revealed that more than 80 percent of doctors in Embu County have now been promoted in three successive batches.

In addition, all contracts have been converted to Permanent and Pensionable terms, with further recruitment of doctors ongoing.

KMPDU expressed gratitude to its Embu branch members for their unity and commitment throughout the campaign, saying the outcome demonstrates the strength of collective action.

The union also commended branch leadership under Deputy Secretary General Dr. Idan Miskellah, who was previously terminated but has since been reinstated and promoted to his rightful job group.

The union noted that he is awaiting payment of salary arrears.

KMPDU reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring no doctor is left behind in matters of promotion, welfare, and fair employment terms, emphasizing that unity remains key to advancing the interests of healthcare workers nationwide.
