Mathare women united eye promotion as title decider looms

Mathare Women United are on the verge of clinching the NSL Women’s Zone A title and securing promotion to the Kenya Women Premier League, with a decisive clash against Gitothua set for this weekend.

Speaking ahead of the crucial fixture, head coach Anne Aluoch described the match as a defining moment in their campaign, despite five games still remaining in the season.

“We are approaching this game like a final, because we are one win away to be confirmed champions,” Aluoch said.

Mathare Women United have emerged as one of the most dominant sides this season, consistently delivering strong performances to sit comfortably at the top of the standings.

Aluoch attributed the team’s success to thorough preparation and a resilient mentality, especially in challenging away fixtures.

“I can say it is because of adequate preparation. Playing against the likes of Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards and Bandari FC is not easy,” she added.

The team’s record underscores their dominance—15 wins, one draw, and just one loss in 17 matches—earning them 46 points so far this season.

They currently hold a commanding 13-point lead over their closest challengers, Bandari Queens, placing them in a strong position as the campaign nears its conclusion.

A victory against Gitothua would seal the title and confirm their promotion to the top tier, marking a historic milestone for the club.

With momentum firmly on their side, Mathare Women United will be looking to cap off an impressive season in style as they chase glory this weekend.
