Police in Kisumu County have arrested a motorcyclist found transporting 12 bales of suspected cannabis sativa following a tip-off from members of the public.
According to the National Police Service, the suspect was intercepted by officers from Obunga Police Station in Kisumu Central Sub-County on April 9, 2026, during a targeted operation.
“Acting on a timely public tip-off, our officers successfully intercepted and apprehended an individual found transporting suspected narcotics,” the police said in a statement.
Upon inspection, officers discovered 12 bales of a green leafy substance believed to be cannabis, concealed in yellow polythene bags on the motorcycle.
“The suspect was riding a motorcycle when he was stopped. Upon inspection, officers recovered 12 bales of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa,” the statement added.
The suspect was escorted to Obunga Police Station, where he remains in custody awaiting formal processing and arraignment in court. The motorcycle and the seized narcotics have been secured as exhibits.
Police commended members of the public for their role in the operation, noting that community cooperation remains key in the fight against crime.
“We commend the public for their continued cooperation and urge them to keep sharing information on criminal activities,” the service stated.
Authorities encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities through toll-free numbers 999 and 911 or anonymously via the #FichuaKwaDCI initiative.
The arrest underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies to crack down on drug trafficking and enhance safety across the region.
