Mwanahamisi Hamadi rejects double salary offer to ditch Citizen TV for TV47

Renowned Citizen TV Swahili news anchor Mwanahamisi Hamadi has left fans in awe after turning down a lucrative offer to join rival station TV47, despite being promised double her current salary.

The celebrated journalist recently made an appearance on Radio 47’s weekend show to promote her new book.

During the session, her longtime friend and host Hassan Mwana wa Ali playfully suggested that she should consider joining TV47, a sister station to Radio 47 under Cape Media Group.

In a surprising twist, Cape Media’s Head of Radio, Geoffrey Munga’u, sent a live message extending an official offer to Hamadi, revealing that the company was willing to double her Citizen TV pay if she joined their team.

However, Mwanahamisi stood her ground and politely declined the enticing proposal.

She passionately expressed her unwavering loyalty to Citizen TV, saying the station has been her home and foundation since the early days of her career.

“Mambo ya mkataba hapo sijui, kwa sababu kusema ukweli, Citizen TV ni nyumbani, kumenilea. Wakati nyinyi mwatafuta attachment mimi ile ilinipatia kazi. Naijeshimu kama nyumbani,”
she said, affirming her gratitude to the Royal Media Services-owned station.

According to Hamadi, leaving Citizen TV for a higher paycheck would be an act of ingratitude, considering how the station supported her at a time when job opportunities were scarce.

Her bold decision drew admiration from fans and colleagues alike, who praised her integrity and sense of loyalty, rare traits in today’s fast-changing media industry.

It is worth noting that TV47 and Radio 47 have shaken Kenya’s broadcast scene in recent years after aggressively poaching top talent from leading stations, including Radio Maisha and NTV.

The strategy has paid off, helping the Cape Media-owned outlets grow rapidly and capture a significant share of the media market within just two years.

Still, for Mwanahamisi Hamadi, no offer, not even a doubled salary, seems tempting enough to make her abandon the newsroom she proudly calls home.
