NPS trains over 400 Officers in e-Learning programme to boost professional skills

The National Police Service (NPS) has intensified efforts to strengthen the skills and professionalism of its officers through a new e-learning sensitisation programme conducted at the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil.

The training session, held on May 22, 2026, was led by NPS Director of Training and Research, Mr. Hassan Aljir, AIG, and targeted more than 400 officers drawn from different cadres within the Service.

Speaking during the sensitisation session, Mr. Aljir emphasized the importance of embracing digital learning as a tool for continuous professional development within the police service.

“The programme is designed to give officers an opportunity to independently register for courses, study module-based content, undertake assessments, and receive certification upon successful completion of all modules,” he said.

According to NPS, the self-paced online learning initiative covers critical policing areas, including the use of force and firearms, handling Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) cases, crowd control and public order management, as well as work-related trauma.

“This initiative will equip officers with the knowledge and expertise needed to respond effectively to emerging technological and security challenges,” NPS said.

The Service noted that the programme is part of broader efforts to promote continuous professional growth and modernize policing through innovation and training.

“The National Police Service remains committed to building institutional capacity through continuous training, innovation, and strategic collaborations aimed at promoting professionalism, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening public trust,” the Service stated.

The e-learning programme is expected to play a key role in preparing officers to adapt to evolving policing demands in an increasingly digital and complex security environment.
