Nuru Okanga says he wishes to be buried within 72 hours, just like Raila Odinga

The death of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga has thrown millions of Kenyans, especially his loyal supporters, into deep confusion and mourning.

Among those most affected are his ardent devotees such as Gaucho and Nuru Okanga, individuals who have for years dedicated their lives, energy, and voices to “Baba.”

This devotion was once again evident on Friday, October 17, 2025, moments after thousands of Kenyans gathered at Nyayo Stadium to pay their final respects to the late opposition leader.

Speaking during an interview with a local online media outlet that evening, Nuru Okanga made a striking declaration about his own life and death in honour of his political mentor.

Okanga urged his family and fellow Kenyans to ensure that he is laid to rest within 72 hours of his death, just as Raila Odinga was.

According to Okanga, his final wishes should mirror Raila Odinga’s, particularly the 72-hour burial timeline, which he views as a symbol of dignity and peace.

He further stated that he wishes to “follow Baba to heaven as soon as possible” once his time comes, emphasizing that his desire for a quick burial stems from the prevailing political uncertainties in the country.

“Mimi kama Nuru Okanga nimewachwa kwa mikono mbaya. Mimi kama Nuru Okanga nitaendelea kuongea na Wakenya. Ile siku munaskia nimeenda pap! Within 72 hours vile Baba aliandika kwa will yake, pia mimi nikuwe namfuata haraka haraka kwa sababu saa hii Kenya hatujui iko wapi. So naomba tu musimame na hii flag yetu ya Kenya,” he said passionately.
