Pastor Ng’ang’a Under Fire After Viral Video Shows Him Slapping Congregant

Pastor James Ng’ang’a of Neno Evangelism Church is facing widespread criticism once again after a video surfaced showing him slapping a congregant during a church service.

The one-minute clip, which quickly went viral on various social media platforms, has sparked public outrage and calls for legal action against the controversial preacher.

Among those condemning the pastor’s actions is Homa Bay Town MP George Kaluma, who urged the government to take immediate and decisive action.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday evening, Kaluma called for Pastor Ng’ang’a’s prosecution, labeling the incident a blatant violation of the worshipper’s rights.

“The government must act,” Kaluma wrote. “Kenya needs to prosecute and stop characters like Ng’ang’a and deregister churches like Neno Evangelism, where leaders openly abuse worshippers before we witness another Shakahola-type massacre.”

In the now-viral video, Ng’ang’a is seen walking briskly toward a male congregant who had apparently dozed off during the sermon.

Without hesitation, the pastor slaps the man and launches into a verbal tirade before forcibly ejecting him from the service.

He then turns his anger toward a woman seated next to the man, accusing her of allowing him to fall asleep.

“Why are you letting him sleep?” Ng’ang’a demanded.

The woman responded that she had not noticed the man was asleep because she was focused on the preaching.

Although initially threatening to remove her as well, Ng’ang’a ultimately allowed her to remain.

This is not the first time the pastor has drawn criticism for his behavior.

In February, he came under fire for allegedly humiliating a woman, Milka Moraa, who approached him for help paying her rent.

After her landlord locked her out of her home, Moraa turned to Ng’ang’a, hoping for support only to be met with insults.

The pastor told her to look for a cheaper place to live instead of seeking assistance.

The latest incident has reignited debate over the regulation of religious institutions in Kenya, with critics warning that unchecked abuse of power by religious leaders could lead to tragedies similar to the Shakahola cult deaths, where hundreds lost their lives in Kilifi under the guise of religious worship.

As pressure mounts, many Kenyans are now calling on authorities to hold Pastor Ng’ang’a accountable and reassess the legitimacy of churches like Neno Evangelism.
