Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang has called on the government to engage content creators in promoting its development projects, policies, and flagship initiatives, emphasizing their role in enhancing the country’s digital visibility.
Speaking during the launch of Konza Technopolis on Thursday, September 11, Senator Chesang who also chairs the Senate ICT Committee said leveraging content creators with large online followings would not only empower them economically but also amplify government messaging to a wider and younger audience.
“Let us use content creators to talk about government projects, policies, and Konza to Kenyans, especially the youth,” Chesang stated.
“By giving them these tasks, we will not only empower them but also help spread the word globally about what the government is doing.”
He further urged the government to support the creative economy as part of a broader youth employment strategy.
“If we want to create jobs for our youth, let’s start by creating opportunities for content creators to be part of the national development story,” he added.
Konza Technopolis, a flagship Vision 2030 project under the Ministry of ICT, is being developed as a premier science and technology park, designed to foster innovation, research, and digital growth.
Located about 60 kilometers from Nairobi, the 5,000-acre smart city is set to host a range of infrastructure including green energy projects, affordable housing, ICT hubs, and international-standard conference facilities.
ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo highlighted Konza’s potential to transform key sectors such as tourism, industrialization, and foreign investment.
“Through a whole-of-government approach and robust Public-Private Partnerships, we aim to make Konza Africa’s largest Smart City and a global hub for innovation,” said Kabogo. “Konza Technopolis is the next frontier for technology, tourism, and investment.”
The event comes two months after the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) approved the establishment of the Konza National Drone Corridor the first regulated airspace in the country dedicated specifically to drone operations.
According to the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA), the corridor will support safe, long-range drone flights and provide a controlled environment for research, training, and testing of drone technologies.
“A dedicated and highly skilled Corridor Operations Coordinator will manage the space, ensuring continuous regulatory compliance, optimizing operations, and maintaining the highest safety standards,” KoTDA said in a statement released on July 9.
