The mind-boggling salary Willis Raburu is demanding to make TV comeback


Fans of celebrated journalist and media personality Willis Raburu have a reason to smile after he hinted at a possible comeback to television.

Raburu, who has been off the screen for months, recently opened up about a potential return, but only under specific conditions.

Speaking during an in-depth interview with Shattah Bway on his podcast, the former 10 Over 10 host revealed that he is open to coming back, but only for a show that is “very different.”

“I don’t mind getting back on TV, but it has to be a show that’s completely different. How? I’m not sure yet, but it has to stand out,” he said.

The media heavyweight also shed light on why he chose to take a break from television in the first place.

According to him, stepping aside was a conscious decision to give room for younger talent to shine and to focus on creating platforms that could help amplify emerging voices.

“I took a backseat to allow other talented people to take up the space. I wanted to use my voice and platforms to amplify other people,” he explained.

Willis Raburu Sh1 Million Salary

However, Raburu made it clear that his return to TV won’t come cheap.

The journalist revealed that he would only consider a comeback if the deal came with a monthly salary of over Sh1 million.

“But nikiskia mwito, I don’t mind. I can get back on TV but with a show that’s very different. Well, kama kuna mtu anaweza nilipa juu ya millioni, maybe. Then we can talk. But for now, my eyes have seen the glory,” he quipped.

The former Citizen TV star said he knows his worth, having worked at the top of the industry for years and experienced success firsthand.

Break From TV

Recently, Raburu unveiled his own media company, Wabebe XP Studios, as part of his efforts to position himself strategically in the ever-evolving digital content space.

Before launching his venture, Raburu had joined TV47 as the Director of Digital Services and Innovation, but left the station after only eight months.

“As I bid farewell to the TV47 family, I am filled with a sense of pride and gratitude for the remarkable growth we’ve achieved together over the past few months,” read part of his farewell message.

Raburu, who spent over 13 years at Citizen TV, rose through the ranks, from intern to news reporter, and later, one of Kenya’s most celebrated entertainment show hosts.

If he does make a return, it’s clear that it won’t just be any comeback, it will be on his terms and on top dollar.
