The earlier crash involved a trailer and a 14-seater matatu, with the trailer losing control due to a brake failure and colliding head-on with the matatu, which was carrying passengers. The crash killed 12 people instantly.

Footage from the Migaa accident showed the matatu severely damaged, while the trailer only suffered damage to its front.

Rescue teams were seen struggling to retrieve the bodies from the wreckage.

The crash also caused a significant traffic jam, forcing motorists to take alternative routes to avoid the heavy gridlock.
