A university student has been arraigned in court for allegedly publishing false and misleading information about the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations and being found in possession of several national identity cards belonging to other individuals.
According to the charge sheet, Nasiuma Chrispinus Nambafu, a Bachelor of Science student majoring in Mathematics and Physics, is accused of intentionally publishing false information between 2022 and October 11, 2025, through a WhatsApp forum titled “Teachers KNEC Exams 2025.”
The prosecution alleges that Nambafu falsely claimed to have access to the 2025 KCSE examination papers, purporting that the materials originated from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
He is said to have published the misleading information with the intention of deceiving the public and fraudulently obtaining money from unsuspecting individuals.
Nambafu faces a charge of false publication, contrary to Section 22(1) of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No. 5 of 2018.
In addition, he faces three more counts of unlawful possession of national identity cards, contrary to Section 14(1) and Section 14(f) of the Registration of Persons Act, Cap 107, Laws of Kenya.
The court heard that on October 11, 2025, in the Kianjai area of Tigania West Sub-County, Meru County, Nambafu was found in possession of National Identity Card No. 560150379, belonging to Lucy Muthoni Kimencu, without lawful authority.
He was also found with two other identity cards one belonging to Bosco Kioko Wambua (ID No. 37806435) and another yet to be identified contrary to the law.
Nambafu denied all the charges when he appeared in court.
The prosecution requested that he be detained as investigations continue into possible links between the alleged fake exam claims and the recovered ID cards.
He was, however, granted release on a cash bail of Sh100,000 pending further investigations.
