Kisumu City officials have confirmed that a fire broke out this afternoon at Mama Ngina Children’s Home, but all children were safely evacuated and no casualties were reported.
The Kisumu City Fire Department responded promptly to the incident, receiving reinforcement from the JRS Fire Brigade, Kenya Pipeline Corporation Fire Brigade, and the Kibos firefighting team.
Through their coordinated efforts, the fire was successfully contained.

Officials from the City Management, led by Head of Disaster Management Ms. Catherine Obor, were on site, alongside the children’s home manager, Ms. Hellen Tuli.
They were joined by representatives from the National Government Administration, led by Regional Commissioner Ms. Flora Mworoa, and the National Police Service to assess the situation and coordinate next steps.
The City of Kisumu expressed appreciation to members of the public who responded and offered assistance but urged people to keep away from emergency scenes to allow officers to carry out their duties safely.
Investigations into the cause of the fire have begun, and city officials have pledged to keep the public updated as more information becomes available.
