Police in Thika West Sub-County have arrested three suspects following an intensified security operation targeting a spate of mobile phone thefts in the Jomoko area.
The arrests were made after officers from Ngoingwa Police Station stepped up surveillance and patrols in response to multiple reports of phone snatching incidents that had raised concern among residents.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were using a motorcycle to carry out the thefts, targeting unsuspecting members of the public before fleeing the scene.
Acting on the intelligence, police mounted a coordinated ambush along an identified route.
During the operation, officers intercepted a motorcycle carrying three male suspects approaching from the Juja direction and successfully arrested them.
The suspects, aged between 22 and 24 years, were found in possession of a toy pistol, which police say was used to intimidate victims during the commission of the crimes.
Further interrogation revealed that the suspects were residents of another neighbourhood in Nairobi County and had been travelling to Thika West specifically to carry out mobile phone thefts.
The three suspects have been taken into custody as investigations continue, with the recovered toy pistol secured as an exhibit.
Police said further inquiries are underway to establish whether the suspects are linked to other similar incidents in the area.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining security, noting that proactive operations will continue to curb crime and protect the lives and property of residents.
