A 30-year-old man drowned while swimming in Gachomo Dam in Juja Sub-county, Kiambu County, on Saturday afternoon.
The incident was reported after members of the public alerted authorities that a man had disappeared beneath the water.
Police officers visited the scene and found that members of the public had already retrieved the body.
The deceased was identified by his brother as Peter Mwaura, 30.
According to witnesses, Mwaura had entered the dam using a bamboo pipe to aid his swimming before he was overwhelmed by strong water currents and drowned.
Police said the body bore no visible physical injuries.
The scene was documented before the body was moved to the Kenyatta University Hospital mortuary, where it will be preserved pending a postmortem examination. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Meanwhile, police in Kangemi, Nairobi, have launched investigations following the sudden death of a woman who was found dead inside her house on Saturday evening.
The incident was reported after the woman’s boyfriend returned home from work and discovered her unresponsive.
The man had left the house at around 5:30 a.m. for work in Westlands, leaving his girlfriend, identified as Joyce Chepkorir, at home. When he returned at about 6:40 p.m., he knocked on the door but received no response.
He then looked through a window and saw Joyce lying motionless on the floor before alerting police.
Officers visited the scene and found the body of Joyce Chepkorir lying on the floor inside the house. Police said there were no visible injuries on the body.
Scenes of Crime personnel from Dagoretti processed the scene before the body was moved to the City Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
