A 17-year-old Form Four student drowned in River Ragati in Mathira East, Nyeri County.
The incident occurred at about 4:30pm on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Gichathaini Village.
According to police the incident was reported after the student entered the river.
Police officers from visited the scene and identified the deceased as Rose Wandia Mwangi, a Kikuyu female juvenile and student at Kangocho Secondary School.
Members of the public assisted police in recovering her body from the river.
The scene was processed and documented by DCI officers before the body was moved to Karatina Level Four Hospital mortuary.
The body is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Elsewhere, police in Nyeri are investigating after the body of a man was found floating in Karia Lake, Nyeri Central Sub-County.
The body was discovered on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, and the incident was reported to Gatitu Police Station at about 12:55pm by the Assistant Chief of Riamukurwe, Rhonda.
Police officers visited the scene and recovered the body.
The deceased was identified as John Waweru, who had visible injuries on his forehead.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators before the body was moved to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital mortuary.
An autopsy is expected to establish the cause and circumstances of his death as investigations continue.
And police in Kakamega County have arrested three suspects following the death of a 26-year-old man whose body was found outside his home in Mumias East.
The body of Edmond Odinga Olunga was discovered at about 6:30pm on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in Bulukuyu Village, Ebusa Sub-Location.
According to police a team that who responded to the scene found Olunga lying lifeless on the ground outside his residential house.
The deceased had multiple visible injuries to his head, back and right hand, which police suspect may have been inflicted before his death.
Three people related to the deceased have since been arrested in connection with the incident and are assisting police with investigations.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to St Mary’s Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding Olunga’s death and the events leading to the injuries.
