The Ministry of Education has ordered the immediate closure of Narok Adventist Primary and Junior Secondary School following the mysterious death of a 14-year-old student on Sunday.
According to Narok County Director of Education, Apollo Apuko, the school will remain shut as investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) proceed.
He urged parents and the local community to remain calm and allow authorities to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
“We are closing this institution today. No students should be present on the premises. We are leaving the matter to the DCI to handle,” said Apuko.
A police report revealed that the Grade Nine student was found inside the school dormitory with visible injuries and signs of a struggle. The boy had a deep neck wound and was bleeding profusely.
He was rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital by the school matron and a driver but sadly died while receiving treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that there were bloodstains on a bench outside the dormitory, significant blood traces in the boys’ toilet, and drops of blood near the clothesline area.
These findings have led authorities to suspect the student may have been attacked elsewhere before returning to the dormitory.
Police have arrested the school’s security guard in connection with the incident.
“The scene was documented by crime scene personnel. An angry crowd stormed the school and set one dormitory on fire. However, officers from Narok Police Station, with assistance from parents, were able to contain the situation. Security is still being monitored,” read part of the police report.
The incident has sparked outrage and fear among local residents, with some attributing the tragedy to ongoing leadership disputes within the church associated with the school.
Purity Munke, a worshipper at Narok SDA Church and a friend of the deceased, expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
“I was very shocked when I heard the news. I even went to the morgue to confirm if it was true unfortunately, it was,” she said tearfully.
Parents have also expressed anger and demanded accountability from the school administration.
“We want to know where the caretaker, matron, and guards were when this child was attacked. The family deserves answers and justice,” said Beatrice Isaiah, a concerned parent.
The student’s body is currently at the Narok County Referral Hospital mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
