A joint operation in the early hours of October 10, 2025, led to the arrest of one suspect and the seizure of more than 1,000 litres of a lethal illicit brew known locally as Kangara in Korogocho’s Grogon B area.
Teams from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), working with the National Police Service, raided a large illegal distillery suspected of supplying toxic alcoholic drinks to nearby communities.
Officials said the seized Kangara along with samples of chang’aa were collected as exhibits for prosecution, and the bulk of the confiscated liquor was destroyed at the scene.

The arrested individual is due to be arraigned at Makadara Law Courts.
Authorities said the raid was part of a nationwide Rapid Results Initiative led by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to dismantle networks involved in the production and sale of illicit alcohol.
NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa issued a stern warning to those involved in the trade: “To the merchants of death peddling this poison, your time is up. This operation is not an isolated event it is a sustained, nationwide crackdown. We are coming for the distilleries, the distribution networks, and the sellers. We will hunt you down, and the full force of the law will land on you. Your choice is simple: abandon this trade now or face the consequences in court.”
